New research has shown that us Brits are improving the value of our property by taking an interest in horticulture.

The HSBC Gardens survey has revealed that the UK is set to spend £3.9 billion this year sprucing up the garden which works out as £185 per person.

HSBC’s data showed that people in the East Midlands are set to spend £253 improving their gardens, those living in the North West are to spend £240 and that Londoners are to spend approximately £124.

Houseladder.co.uk, reported that this garden investment will improve the investor’s property value when it comes time to sell.

Head of Mortgages at HSBC, Peter Dockar said: "Britain has traditionally had a love affair with gardens but with households facing financial pressures, people have to make difficult decisions about where to spend their cash."
